What Is DEAP Software And Why Is It Important?

What is DEAP software? Well that’s easy! DEAP software is used by BER assessors in their evaluation of a home’s energy performance. By inputting data related to several factors, DEAP can be used to create BER certificates and assign energy consumption ranks to a property. Simple!

We’re kidding. Sounds like gobbledygook right? If that didn’t make any sense to you then not to worry, you won’t be alone. In this blog, we’ll break everything down and explain it all in a way everyone can understand.

What is DEAP software?

DEAP software, standing for dwelling energy assessment procedure, is the compliance tool that must be used as laid out in Part L of the Irish Building Regulations. It is a tool used in BER assessments that assesses a mix of factors including insulation, thermal bridge free construction, airtightness, heat recovery and others to get a clear understanding of a building’s overall energy consumption.

From the evaluation created using DEAP software, a BER (building energy rating) assessor can generate a BER certificate which will then give the building an energy efficiency rank. These ranks scale from A to G, with A being the most efficient and G being the least efficient.

Pipelife Eco has the ability to provide all of the required technical data on our variety of systems that needs inputting into a DEAP system. This data can then be used by a BER assessor to create a BER certificate and get an energy efficiency rank assigned to the property.

So Why Is DEAP Software So Important?

Well the short of it is, DEAP software is all in place specifically to help you. Having a BER rating attached to a home lets anyone interested in buying or renting the building know exactly what they’re getting into in terms of their energy usage. This is becoming ever more important today, as energy prices continue to regularly climb. The higher your energy efficiency rating, the less you have to pay on your heating bills. DEAP software is so important because it is the tool used to facilitate buyer awareness in understanding the running costs of their home.

Beyond that, it’s also part of a bigger mission to improve the energy efficiency of our homes. Our society is becoming increasingly aware and more passionate about the sustainability of our living habits and housing. By investing in reducing our energy consumption, we’re always getting one step closer to a greener future. In Ireland, all new dwellings are now required to have undergone a successful assessment using DEAP software and need to score an A3 or better.

So that’s what DEAP (dwelling energy assessment procedure) software is – the Part L compliant program used for accessing energy consumption. We hope that this blog has been helpful in explaining what it is and the reasons why it’s very important.
